Great introduction to under-appreciated artists
I had no idea there were so many women composers in so many places over such a broad swath of history. This “dictionary” does not give much information on individual pieces in terms of technical detail—style, form, story (for operas), lyrics—but after reading this you will have a clearer picture of women’s lives, careers, and roles in the musical cultures they inhabited up through the mid-twentieth century or so. I plan to find recordings of many of the pieces and continue enjoying the research!
