Well I bought this at a very cheap price as it was an used book but it was as fresh as a new one. Helpful for theatre students but not much insightful if one has read Kier Elam 's Semiotics on Theatre and Drama. Otherwise it is quite handy and written in simple English.
Penetrating survey of semiotics and performance
Wonderfully clear and comprehensive account of a difficult subject in theatre studies. I especially enjoyed the analysis of speech acts in dramatic dialogue. Perhaps the authors were restricted by space to go deeper into their subject matter but, as a general overview with some startling insights, this is excellent.
Theatre Science
For all that I find some of this text a little navel-gazing, it is also fantastically useful for analysing a performance or a production and figuring out how it works and why - or how and why it doesn't work. It made me think about all sorts of aspects that I hadn't considered - no bad thing!
Five Stars
excellent
