L'opera sostiene due tesi: 1) alcune corruttele in Orazio sono dovute a errori non soltanto visivi, ma anche auditivi, dovuti quindi a dettatura; 2) Orazio era soggetto a debolezze compositive come chiunque e gran parte dei passi segnalati come corrotti nell'edizione di Vollmer sono da Beck giudicati del tutto accettabili, con le dovute motivazioni.Naturalmente la dottrina, per quanto vasta, è limitata alle conoscenze del 1907, ma il testo merita comunque di esser letto.La nota negativa è la ris
