It's a very good book for engineers who want to understand how practically apply the ASME Code principles into the real engineering problems.
The Necessary Guide to a Critical Craft
Fitness-for-service inspections and analysis demand the perspicacity of a Sherlock Holmes, the analytical ability of a Richard Feynman and a respect for documentation and corporate process controls - three skills not very often combined in one person. And yet the craft is a worthy one - a key enabler in the maintenance of our industrial infrastructure. In over 450 pages George Antaki more than does justice to this neglected, cross-disciplinary, critical engineering practice. Always he is after understanding, and his explanations of complex phenomena like corrosion, stress corrosion cracking and erosion-corrosion are lucid and concise. The author praises the API 579 code on which the book is based. I have read that 170 page code and the praise belongs to Mr. Antaki for producing this guide that goes well beyond code to be the best guide to this critical practice; the engineering backbone of the emerging practice of predictive maintenance and the cornerstone of the well managed industrial operation.
