Continents and Supercontinents frames that controversy by giving all the necessary background on how continental crust is formed, modified, and destroyed, and what forces move plates. Customer Reviews
so was disappointed when I was at the end
The author isn't a writer, but certainly is a scientist. I was fascinated by what we know and how we know it, so was disappointed when I was at the end.
Continents and Supercontients
continents & incontinents
i started out looking through old nova telecasts, science channels, etc. & could not find what i wanted: a telecast that showed early supercontinents, how they broke up, how they reassembled & explained why they behaved as they did. i can't believe that telecast doesn't exist, but as far as i know it doesn't. this book was the next best thing: lots of illustrations showing what i wanted to see--albeit in the form of line drawings--& detailed explanations as to why all this assembling & disassembling took place. a wonderful geology lesson. why i gave 4 stars & not 5 is the absence of a glossary of special terms--craton is not in my webster's--& the failure to explain what their time scales mean. a chart showing their time scales in relation to biological eras would have been a great help too. i guess they didn't expect lay people like me to buy their book.
