Updated: Covers topic well. In fact it's great help!

* PhysicalThis book covers second and third-year, Post Grad group theory in a mathematics course. The book is well bound and printed on good quality paper in nice font size, for those with specs.* PrerequisitesIf you can get your hands on the now defunct Open University 'M203: A Course in Pure Mathematics' that covers the Group theory Block, this will be a great help. Specifically, Permutations, Cosets and Lagrange's Theorem, Conjugacy, Isomorphisms and Homomorphisms, and Group Actions I just prefer the way the OU develops this early topic area. But the book does cover this area too so it's not necessary.* What's the best bit then? The trick is when you find a book you can run with, and your finding studying these areas bit difficult, you always need a sharp clear definition of what you're studying. If you have a 'thick moment' just google the definition and it's a lot easier to study. This really helps the speed and understanding of this topic and year level. This book has worked out questions in the back so this helps.*TipsWhen your reading a math topic it's helpful to show what the relationships are by drawing a diagram of what it is saying. It's so helpful. The letters which represent matrices are superbly coordinated too. I have eventually grasped and gained an understanding of what's been explained to me. I have previously found this a difficult book but I have at the third attempt grasped this wonderful book.* SummaryThis book is challenging but it's stepped in difficulty increments so you have a chance to cope if you are persistent. I have been reading it for over 8 weeks, for three goes tries. This book does edge into Post Graduate work after the middle of the book. This book is great to help if you're able to run with this. It's taken me a long while to grasp what it explaining and I have really enjoyed this book!

An excellent book.

The author develops the theory slowly and attempts, successfully in my view, to explain everything. I found it possible to follow all the theories without the aid of a tutor. This has not been the case with other books I have studied on group theory.
